Description
Turtle is an experience design studio. We create progressive web and native applications. We play in the intersection of design and technology, and love to explore the possibilities in emerging platforms.
We are looking for a Associate Design Director who can inspire confidence in clients and their team through excellent design and effective communication. You have the experience, confidence and expertise to create beautiful and thoughtful UX and Interface design. You have a strong personal design process, opinions on design, and take responsibility for making creative decisions and driving projects as the lead designer. You are comfortable presenting both design strategy and execution to clients, and know how to establish trust and collaboration with clients.
You have the interpersonal, strategic and leadership skills required to lead teams. You recognize the unique opportunities that are available by joining a young company where you will play a huge role in helping to dictate the process, methodologies, and specializations that our company will move into.
Responsibilities:
- Lead discovery, project planning, design research and brainstorming
- UX Design for native and responsive web products - deliverables include user flows, sitemaps, wireframes, interaction and features specifications, prototypes
- Interface Design for native and responsive web products - deliverables include visual style guides, design systems, UI kits, design mockups
- Pursue the best possible solutions with an understanding of project and technology limitations
- Define and design initial UX and UI systems and oversee Designers in expanding on those designs into final mockups and revisions
- Provide oversight, direction, and critique work of Designers
- Accurately estimate level of effort and time required to complete design tasks
- Maintain design documentation
- Work quickly in a fast-paced environment to ensure your projects are progressing
- Willingness to be flexible and work on a variety of tasks
- Keep Design Director aware of project progress
- Present design strategy and your team's work to clients, and nurture client relationships
- Stand for a high quality of design with all work we create
- Key contributor to our design process
- Key contributor to our creative culture

Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years industry experience designing interactive solutions for web and apps, preferably in an agency, startup, or tech company
- A great portfolio showing examples of past work or projects
- Expert in digital design software (eg. Figma, Principle, Sketch, Abstract, InVision, Zeplin)
- Knowledgeable, with a strong opinion, on current design methodologies and user experience best practices such as common UX patterns, responsive grids, progressive web technology
- Communication skills; ability to present your work from a strategic/conceptual and technical/executional level
- Collaborative; ability to make your team better and provide strong leadership, knowing when to push for your ideas and when to work with limitations
- Motivated and responsible; ability to take ownership of projects and be responsible for managing yourself and a small team
- Understanding of code (HTML, CSS, Javascript) and how to design to limitations
Nice To Haves:
- Experience leading small teams
- Usability/user testing experience
- Experience with interaction design (Principle, After Effects, Invision Studio, Framer, etc)
- Writing experience (eg. blogging, copywriting)
- Front-end Development experience
- Product/e-commerce/iot/VR experience
- Active in a design-related community
